Proper Diet for your Siberian Kitten

In this post I want to discuss the proper diet for your new Siberian kitten. A good breeder will have your kitten on a diet of tinned foods and fresh raw meat.

I recommend that you provide a minimum of three to four meals a day while your kitten is still very small, it can only eat small amounts at each meal. As your kitten grows you will be able to increase the size of the meals and cut down gradually from four to three meals.

If you leave fresh water and dry biscuits out this should be enough to get them through until you do the next meal. I use minced and diced beef. I also give kitten’s fresh chicken wings and thighs and cooked chicken. Chicken wings are particularly good for siberian kittens to eat as they help to clean their gums and teeth. A wing can be cut into two or three pieces to start with and then eventually the kitten should be able to eat a whole wing as one meal.

Feeding dry food alone to a cat especially Siberian Cats can create problems. If these are not a high quality specialty biscuit designed for this purpose. Generally available only from a vet. Please, speak with your vet if you decide you would prefer to feed dry food only.

I do not give milk to any of my cats, as all cats are lactose intolerant doing so will give the kitten diarrhea and should be avoided. As will complete dietary changes without gradually introducing new foods. You may buy specially prepared milk for this purpose. Or use a lactose free milk as available in the supermarkets your kitten is already used to drinking fresh water and provided it is made readily available they will continue to do so.

You may include different types of meat in the diet but do note if you use liver please feed no more than once a week as this is very high in vitamin A and Siberian Cats have been proven to have an adverse effect from this vitamin in large doses. I have also given your kitten grated cheese, which they really love and giving it as a treat a couple of times a week is a good idea.

Adding a small amount of olive oil to the food once a week will also help to keep the kitten free of fur balls and makes the coat healthy and glossy.

As far as dry foods for your Siberian Kitten, we use and highly recommend Nutro and you may find a supplier nearby if you visit their website.

Siberian Kittens

This lens is all about Siberian Kittens! My name is Marie and I am Siberian Cat Breeder (the first breeder of Siberian Cats in Australia) I will use this blog to share with you all I know of this beautiful breed!

I will be going over some basics that you need to now about them so once you decide that you would like to have a Siberian Cat you will understand some of the basic requirements that you need to have ready to bring your cute little kitten home.

Siberian Kittens usually leave the premises of a good breeder in a suitable cat cage which means you will need to bring one when you are picking your kitten up. This is for the safety and comfort of your Kitty in there car - there are very tiny and fragile at this early age!

A soft comfortable bed is a good idea to helping your little Siberian Kitten settle. A good Cat bed can be placed into the dryer to dry or simply sit outdoors on a chair to air dry.

Now lets discuss your furniture :) We all know how cats are! To protect your furniture a good sturdy scratching post is a necessity to have ready and a good pet store will have many on hand. It is a good idea to collect one BEFORE you collect your new Siberian Kitten. There are also sprays which I have tested out - you can spray these on or around surfaces your kitten is scratching and it will usually keep them from doing so.

Siberians Kittens are very very playful and can even fetch and carry for you (like a puppy) if you spend the time with them and train them... They are intelligent and are fast learners. At my home we have lots of ping pong balls around the place, also little mice toys, balls of all types can be chased (smaller the better, including marbles) and most anything with feathers on it is great!

In my next post i will go over the
best foods for your new Siberian Kitten.
